Blast from the Past #231: Cover of second Palladium Books TMNT roleplaying game book

This is the black and white drawing Kevin Eastman did as the basis for a finished color piece that was used on the cover of the second TMNT role-playing game book published by Palladium Books back in the 1980's. I believe the title was "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures".

I think this is one of Kevin's best cover layout designs, and the color version was very cool. But I always found the Foot ninja in the skirt (in the foreground on the left side) kind of odd. -- PL

  1. very Cool Drawing, I like it and dont mind the skirt that much. I could see how it kinda throws it off a bit, but i like seeing this one its cool! Thanks!

  2. Kind of a random tangent, but I know at one point you mentioned you watch Supernatural Pete.

Now I don't know if you DVD the seasons or watch it week by week, but Ninja Turtles got two references in the episode last night in case you didn't see.

And pretty much every Supernatural board I am on has been buzzing about how happy it made fans of the show.

Just wanted to pass that along!

I have not kept current with the show -- I think I have season one and two on DVD. But that is cool! My other two favorite mentions of TMNT on unrelated TV shows are when Frazier mentioned them on an episode of "Cheers", and Tom Selleck read an issue of TMNT on the last episode of "Magnum, P.I.". -- PL

  8. -->> I recall a number of years back, Mike ( Mikey's TMNT ) mentioned to me that Krang's Android Body appeared in an episode of Queer As Folk. It was being handled by Hal Spark's character during one scene. Don;t recall the ep- tho'.

    i'll ask him.

  9. on the reality show Pawnstars an issue of BODYCOUNT of all things showed up.

it was the cover with raph holding up all those guns.
    the main guy said
"i dont think ive seen this one before"
and later on he looks inside it and has a what the hell expression on his face.
    it was hilarious.

  10. FYI, TMNT also mentioned on Season finale of Reaper. Hot Chick holds up Donatello as her favorite toy at a garage sale...

  11. Hey Peter,

Are any of the Mirage guys hitting the theaters to see Turtles Forever? It'd be neat to make an event out of it with Mirage representing :0)

I'm going to be hitting either the Paramus Theater, or Clifton Commons. Gotta confirm it is going to be in Paramus first.

  12. Isn't Ben Edlund writing a lot of the Supernatural episodes, nowadays?

He's got a lot of history with black and white comics featuring ninjas... He created The Tick.

  13. I don't know if you'll get a message from a post this old, but I'll try.

How much involvement did you have in the RPGs? I'm thinking attributes, for example: who has the higher IQ? relative Dexterity? That sort of thing.

(The RPG was my first introduction to the turtles. Love the comics. Never watched the cartoons.)

    1. I don't recall having a lot of input, beyond some basic facts about the characters which had appeared in the TMNT comics. -- PL
